Is it altcoin season right now?
Right now the answer is no: this is Bitcoin season territory. Most of the market is losing ground against BTC.
What altseason means
Altseason, or altcoin season, is the stretch of the crypto cycle in which most altcoins outperform Bitcoin. It is when portfolios full of smaller coins suddenly look brilliant, and it has historically arrived late in bull markets, after Bitcoin has already made its move.
The classic convention declares altcoin season when at least 75 percent of the top coins beat Bitcoin over the measurement window, and Bitcoin season when 25 percent or fewer manage it. Between those lines, nobody owns the market.
How this gauge is measured
BitPulse measures the share of the top 50 coins by market capitalization, excluding Bitcoin, whose price beats Bitcoin over the last 30 days. It updates once a day, the series is archived from the first reading, and past values are never rewritten.
Other sites use a 90 day window over the top 50. Both are legitimate; ours favours a fresher reading. What matters is that the definition is declared and stable, so the number means the same thing every single day.
How to read the number
Altseason and the Bitcoin cycle
Altseason is not an independent event: it is a late chapter of the Bitcoin cycle. Money enters through Bitcoin, confidence builds, and only then does it spill outward. That is why this gauge is best read together with Bitcoin dominance.
BitPulse tracks the cycle with a projection engine whose ranges are published before the fact and checked in public, hit or miss. See how it works or open the live app.
Common questions
Data note: the reading updates once a day from public market data (CoinGecko top 50). BitPulse archives the series and never rewrites past readings. This page gives context, not buy or sell signals.
